Less is more....

A couple of years ago, I got the itch to downsize from our giant house, to a smaller "harder working" home.  Mostly it came about because I just felt I could not get a handle on all the work that it takes to run a big house and yard.  Don't get me wrong, I loved it, it was beautiful, views of the lake, a park like yard, and oodles of character; but with working full time, and the desire to start a family, I found myself resenting my house and all that came along with it. I would spend my weekends cleaning, pulling weeds, and talking myself into thinking I was happy with my beautiful house. I started dreaming of a smaller more manageable house, closer to friends, family, stores and places to walk to; a more streamlined, simpler life.
I found myself scouring the Internet, in search of others who have had the same idea. Most young families don't downsize, they go bigger.  I did find a few, but nothing completely aligned with my goals.  I came across lots of ideas, the problem was, it was not the kind of simplifying I wanted.  It was more living off the grid and making your own detergent kind of people.  SO.NOT.ME! Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with that, it is just not for me.
Coming from an interior design background, I need the function AND form to go hand in hand in a neat, pretty little package.  I need a little style to go with my downsizing, on  realistic budget, in a very pricy city....I know have my work cut out for me.  So here I am, trying to make my own "lessons" to live a more stylish, simpler life. So this is my way to keep all my ideas and musings in one spot.  I am sure I will have many design choices that will work, and maybe even more that won't, feel free to follow along with me.
